Reports that the Parliamentary Majority caucus will soon be changing its leadership have been roundly denied.
Joseph Osei Owusu, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Bekwai, addressed worries and rumors of possible changes in leadership within the Majority Caucus by highlighting the stability and togetherness among caucus members.
He stated, “The publications that are going around are false, the majority caucus has not made any changes to its leadership, and the majority caucus has not contemplated making any changes to its leadership and we want to tell you to ignore any such publication.”
“We are confident in the leadership that we have and the status quo shall remain,” Osei Owusu added.
The Bekwai MP continued by saying that the caucus is not aware of any outside attempts to alter its leadership and that it alone had the authority and right to do so.
Osei Owusu emphasized again how crucial it is to keep up a united front in order to handle legislative issues and advance the goals of the government.
The statement was made in reaction to media reports that stated Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Deputy Majority Leader, is expected to succeed Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the current Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs.
Though it is yet unclear if Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu would continue in his ministerial capacity, it is expected that he will become the chair of the NPP’s 2024 Manifesto Committee.
